## Description

Brownsville proves that a small airport can sit next to very big hardware: SpaceX builds and launches Starship from Boca Chica barely half an hour away, and the Port of Brownsville dismantles aircraft carriers while shipping steel for the launch site. The airport's own claim to fame is older, in 1929 Charles Lindbergh inaugurated Pan American's airmail route to Mexico City from this field. Today American and United fly to Dallas and Houston from a terminal opened in 2021. There is no air cargo handling; freight for the region routes via Harlingen or trucks north to the Houston hubs. The heavy lifting, quite literally, happens at the seaport.
