## Description

The heliport at Broome International Airport (BME/YBRM), described by its operator as the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, records more than 45,000 passenger movements a year to offshore oil and gas facilities in the Browse Basin. The airport itself handles some 447,000 passengers annually, 363,900 of them on the Perth–Broome corridor alone in the year to June 2025. Freight travels in the bellyholds of scheduled narrowbody services and is handled through a Qantas Freight regional facility on site; there is no dedicated freighter operation. Qantas, Virgin Australia, Airnorth, Nexus Airlines and Skippers Aviation link Broome with Perth and with communities across the Kimberley, Pilbara and Mid West. The Kimberley has no railway, so surface feeder traffic runs on the Great Northern Highway, while heavy and oversized consignments use the Port of Broome. Perth (PER), about 1,700 km south, and Darwin (DRW), just over 1,000 km northeast, provide the onward long-haul connections. A new Qantas lounge opened in March 2025, while the seasonal Singapore service trialled in 2024 has since ended.
