## Description

A busy passenger airport is not automatically a freight location: Bristol Airport (IATA: BRS, ICAO: EGGD) handled around 10.83 million passengers in 2025, roughly 3.6 percent of all UK traffic, while UK Civil Aviation Authority freight tables credit it with only a handful of tonnes a year and in some years none at all. Sited at Lulsgate Bottom some 13 km south-west of the city in Somerset, it is the largest airport in south-west England and also draws traffic from south Wales. easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 fly the bulk of its European network on short-haul narrowbodies that carry little or no belly cargo, and there is no scheduled all-freighter service. The airport's significant cargo facility was relocated to Avonmouth many years ago, and its former Royal Mail volumes have ended. Forwarders in the Bristol and Bath region therefore move consignments by road feeder service to East Midlands (EMA), London Heathrow (LHR) or Cardiff (CWL), where cargo terminals and customs clearance are available. Traffic reached 10,479,112 passengers and 78,554 aircraft movements in 2024, against planning permission for 12 million passengers a year. The current master plan update pursues further passenger growth but signals no intention of reinstating a significant freight facility.
