## Description

A Boeing 747 touched down at Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport (IATA: GHV, ICAO: LRBV) in July 2026, a first for Romania's youngest commercial airport, which carried 272,190 passengers in the first half of that year against 128,353 a year earlier. Opened in 2023 about 13 km west of Brașov in Transylvania, the airport welcomed its one-millionth passenger in 2026 and recorded its strongest month in August 2026 with 69,689 travellers. Its runway measures 2,820 by 45 metres, among the five longest in Romania, and certification now covers wide-body types including the A330, 787 and 747. Even so, there is no cargo terminal, no freight handling agent and no scheduled freighter service; air cargo moves only as belly load on passenger flights, with the wide-body certification treated as groundwork for future cargo investment. Automotive and electronics suppliers around Brașov therefore truck their air freight roughly 170 km down the DN1/E60 to Bucharest Otopeni (IATA: OTP), Romania's principal cargo airport, or some 260 km to Cluj-Napoca (IATA: CLJ). Romania has been a full Schengen member since 2025, so intra-EU consignments face no border or customs formalities, while third-country imports are cleared at those larger airports. Valencia joins the route map on 3 November 2026, followed in December by Barcelona, Madrid, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Chișinău, taking Wizz Air to 14 European cities from Brașov.
