## Description

Airlink and CemAir carry the scheduled traffic at Bram Fischer International Airport (IATA: BFN, ICAO: FABL), which handled 431,359 passengers and 11,623 aircraft movements in financial year 2025/26 and is the principal airport of South Africa's central plateau. Operated by state-owned Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), it links Bloemfontein with Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Gqeberha, with CemAir using the city as a base. Freight moves as belly cargo on those passenger flights; there is no freighter operation and no dedicated air cargo terminal yet, so Free State agricultural produce, courier traffic and spare parts travel as feeder volumes. Until it exists, intercontinental shipments are consolidated and cleared at Johannesburg (IATA: JNB), roughly 400 road kilometres north-east via the N1, while Durban King Shaka (IATA: DUR), a good 600 km east, is the alternative for sea-air combinations. BFN therefore works as a feeder point for time-critical Free State cargo rather than as a freight gateway in its own right.
