## Description

Long dormant and once the subject of a 2016 referendum that rejected taxpayer-funded expansion, Bolzano (BZO, ICAO LIPB) was revived by private investors who relaunched scheduled flights in 2021 and now run roughly 223 departures a month to 27 airports (as of August 2026). South Tyrol's own airline SkyAlps, owned by the same Gostner family that operates the airport, flies Dash 8 Q400 turboprops to around 19 partly seasonal destinations in the summer 2026 schedule, with Thessaloniki, Preveza and Dresden newly added alongside Antwerp, Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Kassel and London. Wedged between mountainsides in the Adige valley, it remains one of the Alps' more demanding approaches. The airport has no dedicated cargo terminal, so goods travel at most as belly cargo on passenger aircraft. Air freight for South Tyrol is therefore consolidated at Verona (VRN, about 150 km) or Innsbruck (INN). Intercontinental shipments go via Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Munich (MUC), trucked along the Brenner corridor.
