## Description

Set in the Ton Pheung district where Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet, Bokeo opened for trial flights in February 2024 and was formally inaugurated on 6 March 2026. It is now the country's third-largest airport after Wattay and Luang Prabang, with a 2,700-metre runway extendable to 3,000 metres and a terminal sized for up to two million passengers a year. For now only Lao Airlines serves it, on domestic links to Vientiane and Luang Prabang, and dedicated freight handling remains minimal. Its position beside the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone could lift cargo demand over time, but shippers planning airfreight today should still route through Wattay (VTE) in Vientiane.
