## Description

Chilled salmon, trout and other Nordland seafood account for most of the roughly 5,000 tonnes of freight that leave Bodø Airport (IATA: BOO, ICAO: ENBO) each year, and virtually all of it travels as belly cargo. SAS, Norwegian and Widerøe connect the city to Oslo, Tromsø and the regional short-haul network; there is no dedicated cargo terminal and no scheduled freighter service. Exports are consolidated onward at Oslo Gardermoen (OSL), about 1,000 km south and the country's principal air cargo gateway, with Tromsø (TOS) as the northern alternative. The airport is being rebuilt from scratch: Avinor is putting a new field roughly 900 metres to the south, and construction of the 27,000 m² terminal, designed for 2.3 million passengers a year and contracted to HENT AS, started in August 2026, with handover due in summer 2028 and opening after trial operations in 2029/2030. Road access follows the E6 corridor, which also carries the trucking legs that feed seafood volumes to southern Norway and onward to the Continent. For shippers, BOO is a dependable regional belly-cargo point rather than a volume station.
