## Description

A new international air-cargo facility — roughly 53,000 square feet, opened in June 2024 at a cost of 31 million dollars — gives Birmingham-Shuttlesworth (IATA: BHM, ICAO: KBHM) room to grow its freight business. FedEx Express flies a Boeing 757-200F to Memphis on weekdays, UPS Airlines runs 767-300F and A300-600F service to Louisville, and since 2023 Kuehne+Nagel has brought weekly Atlas Air 747-8F freighters from Stuttgart to feed central Alabama's automotive plants. Alabama's busiest passenger airport handled over three million travellers in 2024, up about six percent, and moved more than 26,000 tonnes of cargo in 2023. Named for civil-rights leader Fred Shuttlesworth, the airport sits where Interstates 20, 59 and 65 converge, with Norfolk Southern and CSX on the rail side. For sheer international tonnage, though, Huntsville (HSV) remains the state's cargo anchor.
