## Description

Set on the old Silk Road in eastern Iran, Birjand is the capital of South Khorasan, a province famed for saffron, barberry and hand-woven textiles. Its international airport (IATA: XBJ) links the city daily with Tehran and Mashhad. It runs no developed air-cargo operation, however: the region's high-value, low-volume exports usually travel via Mashhad, the logistics centre of north-eastern Iran, and onward through Tehran (IKA) for intercontinental shipments. For forwarders, XBJ is a regional feeder whose freight potential lies in those premium goods and in cross-border trade toward Afghanistan.
