## Description

When Maersk needed a home base for its new freighter airline in 2023, the world's best-known container line did not pick Copenhagen – it picked Billund Airport (IATA: BLL, ICAO: EKBI) in western Denmark. Maersk Air Cargo's Boeing 767 freighters now connect the Jutland airport with Asia, anchoring a cargo business that reached a record of around 90,000 tonnes in 2024. Handling is concentrated at Cargo Center Billund, which has carved out a niche in e-commerce flows; Faroese carrier FarCargo also routes its salmon exports through the airport. That makes Billund Denmark's clear number two for air freight behind Copenhagen. The airport itself is a Lego creation: the toy company built the original airstrip in its home town in 1964, and the world's first Legoland still sits next door. Passenger traffic stands at around four million a year, the country's second-largest. Road access runs to the E45 motorway near Vejle, some 30 kilometres away; there is no rail link, so trucking does the feeder work for Jutland's export industries – wind power, furniture, agriculture.
