## Description

A long runway close to Ukraine's capital region and yet not a single commercial consignment: Bila Tserkva air base, south of Kyiv, is a military site and is not available to freight forwarders. Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civil aviation since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, and EASA's Conflict Zone Information Bulletin for Ukraine remains in force at least until the end of July 2026. In March 2026 the Ukrainian government set up a working group to prepare a phased reopening, with Lviv in the west of the country regarded as the most likely first airport rather than any field near Kyiv. Bila Tserkva has no cargo handling, no ground handling agent, no customs office and no bookable capacity for shippers. Ukrainian air freight consequently moves multimodally: trucked to airports in neighbouring countries and flown from there, principally Rzeszów-Jasionka (RZE) and Warsaw Chopin (WAW) in Poland. Kraków (KRK), Budapest (BUD) and Chisinau (KIV) in Moldova complete the picture, the latter offering the shortest legs for the south-west of Ukraine. Planners should budget from the outset for border crossing times and for customs clearance in the respective EU country.
