## Description

AAICLAS, the cargo arm of the Airports Authority of India, runs the international cargo terminal at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BBI) in Bhubaneswar, capital of the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The facility offers a handling capacity of around 26,490 tonnes per year. Direct international freight links resumed in January 2024 after a pandemic pause, currently connecting Bhubaneswar with Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok; the first perishables shipment to Dubai left in May 2024. Odisha's seafood industry — among India's largest shrimp exporters — and agricultural producers are the main drivers of outbound volumes. Surface connections run via National Highway 16 on the Kolkata–Chennai corridor and the East Coast Railway, with the seaport of Paradip about 250 kilometres away. For forwarders in eastern India, BBI is becoming a credible alternative to routing everything through Kolkata.
