## Description

Biella's wool and luxury-textile district ships fabric to buyers on every continent, yet none of it leaves through the district's own airfield. Biella-Cerrione (ICAO LILE) at Cerrione in Piedmont is a general-aviation field with an asphalt runway of about 1,320 metres, used by a flying school, light aircraft and occasional business jets; there is no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no customs office on site. In January 2026 the IMQ Group bought the site from its previous owner and began developing an engineering test centre there under the IMQ Proving Ground name, which points the location further away from commercial traffic. Air freight for Zegna, Loro Piana and the region's smaller mills therefore moves by road to Milan Malpensa (MXP), Italy's leading freight airport, roughly an hour's drive to the east. Turin-Caselle (TRN) sits at a comparable distance to the south-west and is often the better option for consignments routed towards France. Customs clearance, dangerous-goods acceptance and temperature-controlled handling all take place at those two airports rather than at Cerrione.
