## Description

Designed for 800,000 passengers a year, Betong Airport (IATA: BTZ, ICAO: VTSY) has never come close: after opening in March 2022 it stood without scheduled service for almost three years. Ezy Airlines finally launched Hat Yai–Betong in June 2025 using 10- to 12-seat Cessna 208B Grand Caravans, a 152 km sector billed as Thailand's shortest scheduled flight. There is no cargo terminal and no freight handling at BTZ; with aircraft this size, belly capacity is limited to courier-sized items. Goods move by road instead – roughly 140 km of mountain highway to Yala and some 270 km on to Hat Yai – or across the Betong–Pengkalan Hulu land border into Malaysia, where customs formalities are handled. Forwarders therefore route air freight through Hat Yai International (HDY) or Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK). In August 2026 Ezy Airlines dropped three northern Thai routes over airport parking charges while confirming that its southern network, Betong included, would continue.
