## Description

Roughly 5,000 tonnes of cargo against just under three million passengers a year (latest available figures, 2025) place Beihai Fucheng Airport (BHY/ZGBH) firmly in the regional category rather than the freight league. Cargo is handled in the airport's former passenger terminal and moves as belly load on domestic services to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and other mainland cities; no regular freighter operation is documented. Since 17 December 2024 Beihai has been one of China's designated 240-hour visa-free transit ports for nationals of 54 countries, which helps business travel and on-board courier work. Anything beyond a few tonnes is normally routed through Nanning Wuxu (NNG) about 200 km north, or Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) in the Pearl River Delta. The multimodal position is the real strength here: the Beibu Gulf port cluster of Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangchenggang sits on the doorstep and is growing fast as China's maritime gateway to ASEAN. Beihai has traded Hepu pearls since the Han dynasty, so commerce on this coast is nothing new.
