## Description

Batumi is one of the few places where a seaport, an international airport and a land border with Türkiye sit within some twenty kilometres of each other, and for freight that changes the calculation. Batumi International Airport (BUS/UGSB) handled 1.23 million passengers in 2025, up 29 per cent year on year, with 26 airlines serving around 29 destinations including four new routes. Cargo moves almost entirely as belly freight on those passenger services; no dedicated freighter operations or standalone cargo terminal are confirmed, although general cargo handling and secure storage are available on site. A USD 17 million expansion completed in 2021 doubled the terminal to 8,000 square metres and lifted annual capacity to 1.2 million passengers, and a further new terminal is close to opening. Heavier consignments usually travel through Batumi seaport in the city itself or Poti roughly 60 kilometres north, with the Sarpi border crossing about 20 kilometres away for road feeder services to and from Türkiye. Kutaisi (KUT, around 140 kilometres) and Tbilisi (TBS, around 370 kilometres) are the practical alternative airports.
