## Description

Founded as the air access to one of Morocco's four imperial cities, Bassatine Airport (MEK/GMFM) today mainly serves general aviation and flight training rather than commercial traffic. It has no scheduled service and no dedicated freight terminal, and like every Moroccan civil airport it falls under the state operator ONDA. The cereals, olives and wine of the Meknès plains reach export markets by road via the Casablanca Mohammed V cargo hub (CMN), a good 200 km away, or the cold chains of Agadir; Fès-Saïss (FEZ), roughly 60 km east, is the nearest airport with scheduled flights. Meknès itself sits on the A2 motorway and the ONCF Casablanca–Fès rail line, which shapes the road and rail leg of most shipments. Customs formalities for airfreight are handled not here but by the Administration des Douanes et Impôts Indirects at the relevant airport and port offices. For forwarders, MEK is best treated as a regional airfield within the catchment of Fès.
