## Description

Around 6,000 square metres of warehouse space and a dedicated temperature-controlled zone of 5 to 10 tonnes define the cargo footprint of Basra International Airport (BSR). Since 2021 the air cargo terminal has been run by Lebanese Air Transport (LAT), in partnership with the Directorate of Iraqi Airports, handling general freight, express shipments and pharmaceuticals. The airport is critical to southern Iraq's oil and gas sector, channelling drilling equipment and spare parts toward the production fields around Basra. Every consignment passes X-ray screening and, where required, sniffer-dog inspection before loading. BSR works alongside the deep-water port of Umm Qasr, which carries the bulk of Iraq's seaborne trade, giving forwarders a fast air option next to ocean freight. Road links run straight into the industrial zones along the Shatt al-Arab.
