## Description

Two airlines, one scheduled destination and roughly seven weekly departures: Barinas Airport (BNS/SVBI), about 10 km from the capital of Venezuela's Barinas state, is a modest domestic field. Conviasa serves Caracas and Porlamar, while Estelar flies to Caracas only. There is no cargo terminal, no freighter handling and no customs post for air freight; whatever flies out travels as belly cargo on passenger aircraft. Cattle, maize, rice and coffee from the Llanos leave the region almost entirely by road. Shippers with air freight route through Barquisimeto (BRM), some 280 road kilometres north-west, or Maiquetía Simón Bolívar (CCS) near Caracas, roughly 500 km north-east, both of which offer international cargo handling and customs clearance. Currency controls, fuel shortages and the effects of sanctions continue to constrain Venezuelan aviation capacity and frequencies, so transit times should be planned generously. At the foot of the Andes, Barinas links highland and plain — but not as a cargo option.
