## Description

With nearly 8 million passengers in 2025, up 9.7 percent on the 7.3 million of 2024, Bari Karol Wojtyła International Airport (IATA: BRI, ICAO: LIBD) is Apulia's largest airport by a wide margin; together with Brindisi and Foggia, the system run by region-owned Aeroporti di Puglia broke the 10-million mark for the first time. The airport honours Pope John Paul II, a repeat visitor to the Apulian port city. Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet carry most of the traffic, alongside scheduled links to Munich, Vienna and the Gulf. Cargo plays a far smaller part: around 2,000 tonnes were handled in 2024 and about 2,300 in 2025, mostly express and courier shipments, with no regular freighter service. Apulian export goods — produce, furniture, pharmaceuticals from the Bari area — therefore truck to the cargo hubs of Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa. A dedicated cargo building with customs clearance operates on site. The airport lies eight kilometres northwest of the city centre on the A14 Adriatic motorway, and Ferrotramviaria trains run directly to Bari Centrale station.
