## Description

Set against the Makhonjwa Mountains in eastern Mpumalanga, Barberton is a gold-mining town roughly 350 km east of Johannesburg. Its airfield is a general-aviation and company-flight strip with no IATA code, no scheduled service and no freight facilities. In practice that means no handling agent, no customs post and no dangerous-goods capability on site. Commercial shipments move through Kruger Mpumalanga International (MQP) near Mbombela, about an hour north by road, or through Johannesburg (JNB), where Emirates SkyCargo, Qatar Airways Cargo and Turkish Cargo operate freighters. Overland, the N4 - part of the Maputo Development Corridor - links eastern Mpumalanga to the port of Maputo in Mozambique, often the more realistic route for heavy or price-sensitive goods. Barberton itself handles no cargo, but remains a useful base for mining-company flights.
