## Description

West of the Dead Sea, between Arad and Ein Gedi, Bar Yehuda Airfield sits 378 metres below sea level – the lowest airfield anywhere on Earth. Opened in 1963 and just a short drive from the Masada fortress, it handles sightseeing flights, Dead Sea skydiving and occasional charters rather than any scheduled or freight service. The combination of extreme low altitude and desert heat raises density altitude and limits the payload of the light aircraft that use it. No cargo facilities exist on site; air freight for Israel moves through Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) near Tel Aviv. For logistics professionals the field is purely a tourism and general-aviation strip.
