## Description

State-owned operator Aerodromi Republike Srpske runs Banja Luka International Airport (IATA: BNX, ICAO: LQBK) at Mahovljani, some 23 km north of the city and the second-busiest airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its 2025 figures show what the airport is and is not: 484,711 passengers, up 7.7 per cent, 4,244 aircraft movements, and just 23.8 tonnes of freight for the entire year. All of that cargo travels in the bellies of scheduled passenger aircraft — there is no freight terminal, no freighter handling and no dedicated cold chain for pharmaceuticals or perishables. Forwarders serving northern Bosnia therefore normally route air freight via Zagreb (ZAG) in Croatia, around 150 km and roughly three hours by truck, where EU customs clearance and far greater capacity are available. Within the country, Sarajevo (SJJ) concentrates what Bosnian air cargo volume there is, while Belgrade (BEG) is a practical option for traffic arriving from Serbia. Cross-border road haulage remains the dominant mode for anything heavier than courier-sized consignments.
