## Description

Three runways, the longest around 3,550 metres — and not a single commercial cargo flight: Bani Sweif Air Base (ICAO: HEBS) is an Egyptian Air Force installation, not a freight gateway. Established in 1985 in the Beni Suef governorate roughly 120 km south of Cairo, it hosts fighter, training and rotary-wing squadrons under Ministry of Defence control. The base has no cargo terminal, no customs post for commercial goods and no public ground handling, so it plays no part in civil air freight planning. Shippers moving goods into Middle Egypt route through Cairo International Airport (CAI), which concentrates almost all of the country's air cargo throughput, customs clearance and bonded facilities. From Cairo, Beni Suef is roughly a two-hour truck run down the Cairo–Assiut motorway. Sphinx International (SPX) west of Cairo and Borg El Arab (HBE) near Alexandria are the practical secondary options, the latter useful for shipments combined with sea freight.
