## Description

Tracing back to the Balashov Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots, whose origins lie in the 1930s, the airfield 9 km east of Balashov in Russia's Saratov Oblast remains a Russian Aerospace Forces installation and handles no civil or commercial cargo traffic. It is home to the 606th Training Aviation Regiment of the 785th Aviation Training Centre for Long-Range and Military Transport Aviation, flying Antonov An-26 transports. There is no public freight handling and no customs office on site. Air cargo for the region must use civil airports instead: Saratov Gagarin (GSV), roughly 230 km east, or Voronezh (VOZ), about 230 km west. Sanctions and overflight bans in force since 2022 additionally restrict air freight to and from Russia. Deliveries into the Balashov area are in practice arranged by rail or road from an active transhipment point.
