## Description

Opened on 31 March 2017 as Jilin province's fifth civil airport, Baicheng Chang'an Airport (DBC/ZYBA) gave the far west of the province its own air link after decades of long rail journeys. It sits in Taohe town in Taobei district, about 16.5 km from central Baicheng, with a 2,500 by 45 metre class 4C runway and a terminal of roughly 4,500 square metres. The design brief covered 200,000 passengers and just 700 tonnes of cargo a year, which puts the freight side in perspective: air cargo here means occasional belly loads on regional jets, with no freighter operation. China United Airlines links Baicheng to Beijing Daxing, Shanghai Pudong and Shijiazhuang, while China Express Airlines adds destinations such as Tianjin and Hailar. The surrounding Songnen plain is corn and rice country and one of China's major wind-power bases, though turbine blades and tower sections travel by rail and heavy haulage rather than by air. Forwarders with time-critical shipments or export customs clearance work through Changchun Longjia (CGQ), some 300 road kilometres to the southeast, with Harbin Taiping (HRB) as an alternative.
