## Description

Opened on 18 January 2008 to replace the old Bacolod City Domestic Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport (IATA: BCD, ICAO: RPVB) sits in Barangay Bagtic near Silay, about 15 kilometres north-east of Metro Bacolod on Negros Island. In 2023 it handled 1,874,261 passengers and 13,884,796 kg of cargo, roughly four fifths of its design capacity of about 16,715 tonnes a year. Freight moves almost entirely as belly cargo on Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirAsia services and is processed in a dedicated cargo building; no all-cargo carriers serve the field. Perishables drive the volumes — mangoes, fresh fish and seafood from Negros Occidental. International shipments consolidate through Manila (MNL) and Cebu-Mactan (CEB), with Iloilo (ILO) on Panay as a further regional option. For sugar and other bulk commodities the seaport at Bacolod remains the primary route, leaving air freight to the time-critical share of the export trade.
