## Description

Bacău's cargo ambitions still run well ahead of its cargo reality. George Enescu International Airport (IATA: BCM, ICAO: LRBC), the main airport of Romania's eastern Moldavia region, handled 451,036 passengers in 2025, down from a record of about 559,000 in 2024 as Wizz Air trimmed its base here. Dan Air and Aeroitalia serve roughly 15 largely diaspora destinations including London Luton, Rome, Milan, Dublin and Turin. There is still no scheduled air freight and no dedicated cargo terminal; shippers truck consignments to Bucharest Otopeni (OTP), some 250 km south, or to Iaşi (IAS) around 130 km north-east. Since May 2025 both runway directions have offered ILS CAT II, cutting weather-related cancellations and making slots more dependable should a freight business ever start. The airport markets itself as a future regional logistics hub, pointing to the A7 motorway being built along the Siret corridor towards Bucharest.
