## Description

More than 32,000 aircraft movements a year pass through Bacacheri Airport (BFH/SBBI) in northern Curitiba, and almost none of them carry freight. The field serves business aviation, flight schools, maintenance shops, air taxi and air ambulance work, and hosts a Brazilian Air Force unit. Its single paved runway measures about 1,390 metres; the airport operates around the clock and has customs available, but no scheduled freighter services and no commercial cargo terminal. Brazil's Federal Highway Police and the Military and Civil Police of Paraná state also base their Bell, Eurocopter and Leonardo helicopters here. Air freight for Curitiba and the industrial state of Paraná is handled at Afonso Pena International (CWB), about 18 kilometres to the south-east, which has the cargo and customs facilities BFH lacks. For heavy and containerised flows, the port of Paranaguá, roughly 90 road kilometres east, remains the main multimodal alternative. Forwarders use Bacacheri at most as a base for charter, corporate and medevac flights.
