## Description

The 83rd engineer-aerodrome regiment of the Belarusian Air and Air Defence Force holds Babruisk Air Base (ICAO UMNB), a military field on the Berezina in south-eastern Belarus with no IATA code and no civil traffic. It also functions as a reserve airfield. In Soviet times the site belonged to Long-Range Aviation; the heavy bomber division stationed here was withdrawn to Russia at the end of 1994, and no scheduled or freight services have operated since. Air cargo for the Mogilev region is therefore handled at Minsk (MSQ), roughly 120 km to the north-west, which has the customs and cargo facilities the base lacks; Gomel (GME), some 140 km to the south-east, is the secondary option. Western sanctions and the avoidance of Belarusian airspace by EU, UK and US carriers since 2021 sharply narrow the country's air freight options, so forwarders often fall back on air-road combinations through neighbouring states, with border and sanctions status to be checked case by case.
