The French Air and Space Force, not an airport operator, runs Avord: Base aérienne 702 'Capitaine Georges Madon', about 2.8 km north-north-west of the village of Avord in the Cher department, has hosted France's AWACS early-warning fleet since 1991. Alongside airspace surveillance it houses a military school, an air-defence squadron and a specialist maintenance unit. No commercial passenger or cargo traffic is handled, so the base cannot be booked as a handling point and customs clearance takes place at civil airports instead.
