## Description

France's entire airborne early-warning capability flies from here: all four Boeing E-3F AWACS of the Armée de l'air et de l'espace are based at Base aérienne 702 (ICAO LFOA) in the Cher department, operated by Escadron 36 Berry with around 2,500 personnel. Founded as a flying school in 1912, Avord was designated one of France's strategic air bases in 2025, and a ten-year AFI KLM E&M contract keeps the E-3F fleet supported until its replacement. There is no civilian or cargo traffic at the base; air freight from the Bourges/Cher region is routed via Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG, about 220 km) or Tours Val de Loire (TUF).
