## Description

AUG and KAUG belong to the airport of Maine's state capital, a compact field one nautical mile west of downtown Augusta, owned by the State of Maine and operated by the City of Augusta. Scheduled service is limited to Cape Air's Boston link, subsidised under the federal Essential Air Service programme, with three daily rotations in winter and four in summer plus JetBlue connections from a shared terminal in Boston. Nine-seat commuter aircraft leave effectively no belly capacity for freight, and the airport has no cargo terminal, no freighter operations and no permanent customs presence. Air cargo from central Maine is trucked to Portland International Jetport (PWM), roughly 90 kilometres south, which handled about 10,800 tonnes of freight in 2023 and 2.59 million passengers in 2025. Bangor International (BGR), some 120 kilometres north, is the option for international movements and customs clearance thanks to its long runway and established role as a transatlantic technical stop.
