## Description

Iron ore once defined Atikokan: the Steep Rock mines drove this northwestern Ontario town until extraction ended in 1980. Today the Municipal Airport (YIB), on the Trans-Canada route (Highway 11) between Thunder Bay and Fort Frances, is a small general-aviation field with no scheduled passenger or freight service. No cargo terminal operates here, and commercial goods move by road and rail. Time-critical air freight is handled through Thunder Bay (YQT).
