## Description

American Eagle is the only scheduled operator at Athens Ben Epps (AHN/KAHN), flying regional jets to Charlotte (CLT) for a field otherwise dominated by business aviation and University of Georgia football charters. The airport is owned and run by Athens-Clarke County and has no cargo terminal, no freighter service and no resident air-freight handling agent. Northeast Georgia's air cargo therefore moves through Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), about 110 km south-west and roughly ninety minutes away via GA-316 and I-85, where customs brokerage, perishables and pharma facilities are concentrated. Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP), some 200 km north-east and home to an Amazon Air regional hub, is the practical second option for express and e-commerce volumes. Ben Epps built and flew Georgia's first aeroplane here in 1907, which still gives the field more identity than its tonnage ever will.
