## Description

Around 200,000 tonnes of annual freight capacity place Ashgabat International Airport (ASB) at the centre of Central Asian air cargo. Its purpose-built terminal covers 17,174 square metres and combines an ETV handling system, five ramp stands, separate import and export halls with four loading docks each, and two cooling chambers for perishables. Operated by Turkmenistan Airlines, for whom freight ranks among the core services, the facility also houses the distribution centre of the national postal operator Türkmenpoçta. Opened in 2016 about ten kilometres north of the capital, the airport links via Turkmenistan's trunk-road network to the Caspian ports around Turkmenbaşy, adding a sea-leg option for onward forwarding. For logistics professionals it offers a dependable transit point between China, Iran, Türkiye and Russia, though the country's strict customs and visa regime calls for meticulous documentation. The falcon-shaped terminal, a deliberate national emblem, makes the site instantly recognisable from the air.
