## Description

A USD 400 million construction programme is reshaping Asheville Regional Airport (IATA: AVL, ICAO: KAVL), the only commercial airport serving the mountain region of western North Carolina. Launched in 2019 and under construction since August 2023, AVL Forward brought a new TSA checkpoint, north concourse and checked-baggage inspection system into service in June 2025, opened part of the new baggage claim area in April 2026, and is scheduled for completion between late 2027 and early 2028; a separate USD 75 million, four-phase airfield programme known as Project SOAR is funded largely by FAA and NCDOT grants.
