## Description

6,562 tonnes of air cargo passed through Kilimanjaro International (JRO) in 2024 — and effectively none through Arusha Airport (ARK/HTAR), the town-side airfield some 50 km west that moves passengers rather than freight. Perched at roughly 1,390 metres, ARK is a bush and regional field: Auric Air, Regional Air, Coastal Aviation, Air Excel, Zanair, Precision Air and Air Tanzania fly from here to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire airstrips, the longest route being the 483 km run to Dar es Salaam. It has no cargo terminal, no cold store and no dedicated air-freight customs post; only small parcels and belly-hold consignments travel on the turboprops. The region's cut-flower and fresh-produce exports move via JRO, where Swissport runs a warehouse with about 450 m² of dry storage and 500 m² of temperature-controlled space. The operator states that ARK has since been cleared for international regional flights, a step not independently confirmed and in any case unaccompanied by freight infrastructure. Forwarders should therefore quote Arusha traffic on JRO, with Dar es Salaam (DAR) as the fallback when more belly capacity is needed.
