## Description

Eagle Air's scheduled hop to Entebbe is for now the only regular airline service at Arua Airport (RUA/HUAR), the aviation gateway to Uganda's West Nile region — but a €155.99 million African Development Bank package approved on 19 June 2026 will rebuild it as an international airport with a cargo terminal sized for 25,000 tonnes a year. Today the field works with a roughly 1.8 km murram runway suited to light and medium aircraft, about 375 km by air north-west of Entebbe. There is no cargo terminal, no air-freight customs post and no dangerous-goods handling, so commercial shipments are consolidated and cleared at Entebbe International (EBB) and trucked the final leg. Relief traffic supplying the region's large refugee settlements dominates the flying, while cross-border trade with South Sudan (Oraba) and the DR Congo (Vurra) moves by road. The upgrade adds a 3.5 km paved runway able to take a Boeing 777, new taxiways and aprons, a control tower and a passenger terminal for 700,000 travellers a year. Until it opens, shippers of West Nile produce should plan air freight out of Entebbe, with Juba (JUB) an option for consignments moving on into South Sudan.
