## Description

Built as Eaker Air Force Base and closed by the military in 1992, the field at Blytheville now trades under the name Arkansas International Airport (IATA: BYH, ICAO: KBYH). Its standout asset is a runway of roughly 3,500 metres — long enough for wide-body freighters — which in 2025 drew Western Global Airlines to open a base-maintenance operation with a 50,000-square-foot hangar, the largest at the Arkansas Aeroplex, plus 40,000 square feet of storage. Announced in May 2025 and operational from June, the site is projected to employ 60 to 75 people and works alongside Aviation Repair Technologies, an FAA- and EASA-certified repair station based at the same complex. The airport functions as an industrial and aircraft-maintenance site rather than a freight gateway, with no scheduled passenger or cargo service. Genuine air freight for north-east Arkansas routes through Memphis International (MEM), the FedEx superhub about 100 kilometres north.
