## Description

Walk the apron at Ardmore Airport (AMZ/NZAR) and you will see flight-training aircraft, maintenance hangars and restored warbirds — but no freighters and no cargo terminal, despite this being New Zealand's busiest general aviation field with more than 100 resident businesses. Opened in 1945 and located about 5.5 km southeast of Manurewa in south Auckland, it operates a sealed 03/21 runway plus two grass strips sized for light aircraft and business aviation. There are no scheduled airline services and no freight handling on site. Air cargo for the Auckland region moves through Auckland International (AKL), roughly 25 road kilometres west, which is by a wide margin the country's dominant air freight gateway for perishables such as seafood, meat, dairy and cut flowers. Customs clearance and Ministry for Primary Industries biosecurity inspection also take place there rather than at Ardmore. The land around the airfield is being developed into one of south Auckland's larger industrial estates, which makes the SH1 and SH20 road links relevant for trucking legs. Ardmore itself is the right choice for charter, training and maintenance flying — not for freight.
