## Description

Orange juice concentrate, citrus fruit and sugarcane machinery shape the freight profile around Araraquara, yet almost none of it leaves through Araraquara Airport (AQA/SBAQ) itself. The Bartholomeu de Gusmão field, opened in 1935 in the interior of São Paulo state, has a single asphalt runway of 1,500 by 30 metres at 711 m elevation, which rules out freighter operations. Operated under concession by Rede VOA, it is served by Azul with four daily ATR 72 rotations of about 40 minutes to Campinas/Viracopos (VCP) and by Azul Conecta with nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravans, so the only lift available is limited belly capacity for spare parts and small consignments. Exporters therefore consolidate at Viracopos, Brazil's leading air cargo airport, roughly 190 road kilometres away, or at São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) about 290 km away, where customs clearance and bonded warehousing are available. Viracopos also offers onward connections to 61 destinations including Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Lisbon and Paris, which matters when a shipment has to move as express or courier freight. For most shippers AQA is a first-mile feeder, and trucking to VCP remains the standard road feeder service.
