## Description

Category 3C since 22 July 2025, when Brazil's civil aviation authority ANAC upgraded it, Araguaína Airport (AUX/SWGN) in northern Tocantins can now accept aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Embraer 195-E2 — but it still handles no meaningful air cargo. GOL launched a Palmas–Araguaína service on 23 October 2025 with three weekly Boeing 737 frequencies. No cargo terminal is in operation; such facilities appear in expansion plans only, and no dedicated freighter rotations are documented at AUX. Whatever moves by air travels as limited belly capacity, while the soy and cattle economy of northern Tocantins ships overwhelmingly by road, above all along the BR-153. Practical air freight alternatives are Imperatriz (IMP) in neighbouring Maranhão, about 120 km away, Palmas (PMW) some 380 km south, and Belém (BEL) or Brasília (BSB) for international consignments, where customs clearance for imports also takes place.
