## Description

Wedged between Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn at roughly 545 metres, Aosta "Corrado Gex" Airport (IATA: AOT, ICAO: LIMW) at Saint-Christophe is the only airfield in Italy's smallest region — and it handles no commercial cargo. Its work is general aviation, helicopter mountain rescue and civil-protection flying, a profile the regional government has deliberately reinforced alongside air taxi, business aviation and size-limited seasonal charters. Weekly charter flights to Cagliari and Palermo resumed in summer 2026. Completion of the new terminal building and its access roads slipped again in July 2025 because of technical difficulties, so any opening date should be confirmed with the operator before it is relied on. Air freight to and from the Aosta Valley routes through Turin Caselle (TRN, about 110 km via the A5 motorway) or Milan Malpensa (MXP), northern Italy's main intercontinental cargo gateway, where customs clearance is handled. The Mont Blanc and Great St Bernard road tunnels also link the valley directly to France and Switzerland, which often makes road the faster option for regional consignments.
