## Description

A 19,650 m² passenger terminal — roughly eight times the footprint of the 1979 building it replaces — is due to open at Andijan Airport (IATA: AZN) in eastern Uzbekistan by the end of 2026, and was about 40 percent built in mid-August 2026. Handling capacity will rise from 200 to 1,000 passengers per hour, close to one million travellers a year. Uzbekistan Airways currently serves Tashkent, Istanbul, Moscow-Vnukovo, St Petersburg and Novosibirsk, with routes to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and the United Kingdom planned once the works are finished. AZN still has no dedicated cargo terminal: air freight moves only as belly cargo on scheduled passenger aircraft, with no cold chain or dangerous-goods handling on site. Forwarders consolidate bulky, hazardous or customs-heavy consignments at Tashkent International Airport (TAS), some 340 km away by road across the Kamchik pass. The surrounding Fergana Valley is Uzbekistan's textile and farming heartland, and its exports leave predominantly by truck and rail towards Tashkent or the Kyrgyz border crossings.
