## Description

Two asphalt runways and a Category I ILS, yet no control tower and no airline service: Anderson Regional Airport (IATA: AND, ICAO: KAND) in upstate South Carolina is a general aviation field with no scheduled air cargo whatsoever. One runway was lengthened by about 300 metres in 2007 so that larger business aircraft could use the field; fuelling, hangarage and handling run through the Anderson County operation. There is no cargo terminal, no integrator station and no customs office, so for forwarders AND is at best a charter or on-board-courier solution. The region's real freight gateway sits roughly 50 km to the north-east: Greenville-Spartanburg International (GSP) is, according to the regional economic development alliance, the only airport in the Carolinas with regularly scheduled international all-cargo service, including flights to China, Germany, Korea and Mexico. Its cargo facility, built in 2019 for about 33 million US dollars and expanded in 2022, has lifted GSP into the top twenty US airports by international cargo value. Interstate 85 links the two fields directly, keeping the trucking leg from the Anderson area to GSP under an hour in normal conditions.
