## Description

Opened as Amman's original commercial airport and long since overtaken by Queen Alia, Amman Civil Airport (ADJ/OJAM) in the Marka district today combines flight training, maintenance, charter and genuine freighter activity. Jordan International Air Cargo — founded in 2004, owned and operated by the Royal Jordanian Air Force and running a fleet of three aircraft — is based here, and the charter operator Arab Wings and the headquarters of the Jordan Airports Company are on the same site. Marka reopened in November 2025 after a substantial renovation and expansion programme covering safety, infrastructure and capacity, with scheduled passenger services due to return in 2026. Volume and scheduled cargo, however, is handled at Queen Alia International (AMM) about 35 km south, where an 8,000 m² cargo terminal designed for 60,000 tonnes a year was inaugurated on 11 June 2025, developed by Aviation Handling Services with Menzies Aviation and automated handling technology from Lödige Industries. Royal Jordanian Cargo serves Europe, Asia and Africa from AMM and has added an A321 converted freighter with a 28-tonne payload. Inland, the Desert Highway links Amman to the port of Aqaba and King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) roughly 330 km south, the usual corridor for heavy or sea-air consignments. In practice, treat Marka as the address for charter, maintenance and state freight, and book standard air cargo into Queen Alia.
