## Description

Operated by the Egyptian Air Force, Almaza Air Force Base in the Heliopolis district handles military and government flights rather than commercial traffic. It ranks among the oldest airfields in Africa, in use since the earliest days of aviation, yet runs no scheduled passenger or freight services today. There is no public cargo terminal, customs facility or bonded warehouse at the site. Because Cairo International (CAI) lies only a few kilometres away and concentrates all of Egypt's air freight, shippers have no reason to use Almaza. For the trade, its sole value is the short road link to that neighbouring hub.
