## Description

Around 19.95 million passengers passed through Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (IATA: ALC, ICAO: LEAL) in 2025, up 8.5 percent year on year and fifth in Spain, on some 126,081 aircraft movements. Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 dominate the Costa Blanca traffic, with a share of British and Scandinavian visitors matched by few other Spanish airports. The region certainly has airfreight potential: Elche hosts Spain's largest footwear cluster, Ibi its toy industry, Jijona the turrón makers. Little of it flies, though – annual tonnage stays in the low four digits, essentially express and courier shipments handled through the cargo building with its customs office. The bulk of exports trucks to Madrid-Barajas or to nearby Valencia with its container port, one of the Mediterranean's largest. Named since 2021 after the Orihuela-born poet Miguel Hernández, the airport sits nine kilometres southwest of Alicante on the L'Altet plateau, where the A-7 and A-70 motorways intersect; Elche, with its UNESCO-listed palm grove, is twelve kilometres away.
