## Description

Two parallel runways, 12L/30R and 12R/30L, and a shared civil-military apron define what is now Nasiriyah Airport (XNH/ORTL) in Iraq's Dhi Qar governorate. The field, 23 km south-west of Nasiriyah, was known as Tallil Air Base until 2011 and Imam Ali Air Base until 2017. Commercial scheduled services were permitted from 18 November 2014, but freight throughput remains minimal and is essentially belly cargo. A build-out of new terminals, aprons and runways is intended to lift capacity beyond two million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo per year; no confirmed completion date is available. Air freight for southern Iraq therefore routes through Basra International (BSR) or Baghdad (BGW), with road feeder services onward. The deep-water port of Umm Qasr on the Gulf handles the bulk of Iraqi imports and is the realistic multimodal alternative. Clearance is processed by the Iraqi customs authority, which normally requires a locally registered importer of record.
